Parabilis Space Technologies, Inc. announced that it was awarded a contract by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) to develop a densified methane gel for use as a rocket propellant. This contract includes the design of an electric pump specifically for high density “gelled” propellants. The innovations from this contract should enable the use of lower-cost and higher-performance propellants in an upper stage suitable for launch from the XS-1 launch vehicle for less than a $1M fly away cost.
